What is the difference between a welt and a bruise?
Q. people always say like "i got a welt on my leg" but its just a bruise. idk what the diff is lol just gimmie your feedback. What do you think?

A. Whenever I get welts they stay red for a few hours, but I've had some have stayed red for days. I think it depends on where it is, what it's caused by, and if it keeps getting irritated.

I have a quarter sized bruise on my leg that has turned into a welt over 4 days. Any idea why?
Q. I bruised my right calf in a fight about a year ago and also had a welt for about 6 weeks afterwards. In 2003 I had MSRA (Methacillan Resistant Stapholocaucous Aureous) but was cured by antibiotics. It is a blood disease, could this be related?

A. Are you talking about dermatographia? I've seen it before when I worked in dermatology - you can "write" on the skin with a fingernail and the skin will flare up so you can read what you wrote.

A. the only meaning i am aware of is the red mark left on the skin after receiving a sharp blow. e.g. the whip left an angry red welt on his arm. hope this helps.

A. no salve, safe or otherwise, would do any good, saliva would wash it away in seconds. Your best bet is to suck on ice to reduce inflammation, and allow it to heal on it's own.

What could a red welt with a white center be on my three kids?

A. It could be a variety of things, including MRSA. MRSA looks like a large, pus-filled red welt with a white center that is hard and hot to touch. It requires topical and sometimes oral antibiotics. MRSA requires immediate treatment. Please take the children to the doctor. If the lesions have pus, try to drain them by gently holding a warm wet rag to them. Do not press hard or squeeze them.

Unexplainable welt with puffiness that appears on skin?
Q. My girlfriend at times gets unexplainable welts that resemble a burn on her skin! The most recent appeared on her neck! It looks puffy! I think its a allergic reaction possibly! She also gets it around her eyes where she looks like rocky without purple bruising! She also was having skin discoloration & pealing around her hair line area in which she was also losing hair! A. The person who did the tat might have went too deep and caused scar tissue to form. That actually happened on the back of my neck with black writing. The rest of it was fine, just the writing is raised. Monistat 1 worked great by the way. But I'm a little creeped out you asked that... lol

A. It could be a boil or just an extra large pimple. Women can get those around the bra straps area. Tell her to take a warm shower and not to pick at it or attempt to pop it. Also make sure that if she starts to run a fever to get her into emerg. Boils have nasty concequences... and if you dont know the difference between a bad zit and a boil, dont take your chances if she starts to run a fever. If it doesnt give her other side effects, just wait it out and let it go away on its own.

A. There is a rare disorder called Ross Syndrome where your body has trouble regulating its temperature, it could be that, which is associated with painful goosebumps. Have you taken opiates? It could be that as well. Have you had accupuncture or a spinal infusion? Have you had a recent surgery? If you say yes to any of the above, those could be explanations. If you're worried about it, go to the doctor. If it's not those things, I dunno!

Help! Really bad red welt from armpit to middle of nipple on breast?
