I currently live in one town, yet seeking grad membership in another. Would this hurt the chance of an invite?
Q. The town in which I live has an active chapter, but isn't "a fit." Can any member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. offer any insight? Thank you in advance.

A. I don't see why that would be a problem. Do you actively attend programs held by the chapter of interest? Good luck.

A. BGLO organizations these days have an intake process. Look the DST website to locate a Grad Chapter close to you, Inquire with the point of contact for a date for future informational sessions. This is when they speak to potential candidates for the intake process.

Need advice. I'm a choir director seeking new membership for my church choir.?
Q. I am a 24 year old choir director and I need some ideas on how to get people, especially non members of the church to join my church choir. I have been directing this choir for 4 years now and the quality of the choir is very low, unfortunately. 98% of the choir is over 75-80 years old. Hence, many of these members are losing their voices, can't project their voices, have trouble standing up while singing, are becoming less committed (missing rehearsals). In the past, I have made and printed flyers and passed them out into the neighborhood, with no results. Can someone give me any ideas for some effective ways to draw people in, ensuring that they are doing it for the right reasons. The reason that I am looking outside of our church… [cont.]

A. I work with my church's choir. We have several non-members involved. One thing I've found out, at least in my area, is that there are people who really like to sing, but don't initially realize that they don't have to be a church member to do so. Maybe start with an announcement in your church's service bulletin saying that anyone is welcome to be a chorister. Some people shy away from choirs because they think there's going to be some sort of embarrassing tryout (and in some churches, there actually is). Have you considered taking out an ad in your local shopper or newspaper? I know that it might sound odd, but there's a chance that people in the community might see it and decide to give it a try. If you're worried about them doing it… [cont.]

Q. What do you think of the Taiwan government's decision to NOT seek United Nations membership this year?
Asked by Burke Devlin - Fri Sep 4 05:28:13 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Personally I think it was stupid for Taiwan to have been removed from the UN originally. ( As for Taiwan's current view to stop seeking admission back into the UN that is stupid too. Being a member of the UN is having global recognition as a valid country. I think that having continuing to apply for membership is something that Taiwan should do not just for the claim to be a member but for the future of Taiwan. With full UN recognition comes better trade and having the ability to call in support when there are natural disasters. However, there are some rumors to the effect that the reason that Taiwan would stop going after membership in the UN is that president Ma Ying Jeou is attempting to appease "Big Brother" PRC and keep favor with… [cont.]

Membership fee for alpha kappa alpha?
Q. Hello! I am very interested in seeking membership in alpha kappa alpha. This is my first semester at the university of memphis. I currently have a 3.5 GPA. I do community service and i'm active on campus. School gets out in a few more weeks and i'm trying to save up because I want to seek membership in the fall and because I know membership can be pretty expensive. I know that you cannot bluntly tell me how much you paid to become a member but more so how much should I expect to pay if I do get the honor of being accepted? I plan to stay active...community and financially. The chapter here isn't all that huge. The school is a predominantly white institution. Some people have told me that membership fees are usually higher at hbcu's than… [cont.]

A. I attend a pwi and it was very expensive because of the smaller chapter. My chapter has about eleven members but we are very close and active in the community. Make sure you have everything ready for the rush as well, in order to continue the membership intake process you must also have sparking letters of reference as well as a letter of interest. If you are chosen to continue the membership intake process i would recommend around $1250-1400 saved up. It was not long ago(08) that i was selected to be an alpha kappa alpha woman and goes it up every semester as procedures change during the regional conference and chapter dues. I know this may seem like alot of money but alpha kappa alpha is a big financial commitment as well. You never… [cont.]

Why has Sarah Palin not been called out about her former membership in the Alaskan Independence Party?
Q. Even though the leaders of the Alaskan Independence Party (An Alaskan political party seeking secede from the United States) have formally recognized that Palin was, until it came time to run for office, a member of their party, she has yet to be called out by the media on this fact. Why is this? They stated themselves she was in the party.

A. It hasn't been proven...yeah I saw the video with the President of it saying she was a member. She did certainly support it. But that group had every hippie working in Alaska supporting it in the 70s when it started. Heck they almost legalized marijuana then cuz even the rednecks smoked it up there. I worked there then and I even kept a bank account there just in case they did have a secession vote...it was a goof. There are worse things in her past and then there is the little problem of her mental deficiency.

A. Membership in a gang may lead to criminal activity but until it does we cannot lock up all gang members. The police do not have a way of saying this person will commit a crime and the crime will be???. Until we can predict who will commit what crime our hands are tied.

A. I'm with MT. You've got a lot more important things to worry about than some sorority. I know it's been a goal, but you've made other choices that negate the importance of being in a sorority. After you get your degree, focus on your family.

Theoretically, what would happen if a sitting British monarch decided one day to change their religion?
Q. Of course, this would never happen. But what if it did? And let's say, for the sake of argument, that they changed to a non-Christian religion (I know there would be enough of an uproar if one changed from C or E to RC) And let's also say they made a public declaration of this and sought formal membership in that new religion. What would happen?

Do you think that $20 monthly membership is high for a Zen Center?
Q. I use to play chess in Dallas, big club, and the only yearly membership fee was $60. Now why would I have to pay $240 yearly to sit(zazen) in a Zen Center? I find this excessive do you? Also that Zen Center is in Dallas with apparently a lot of members so don't tell me it is all going in utilities. :). I was under the impression that Zen Center were following the Buddha tradition without seeking for money or materialistic goods & values. I guess I will stay home with my meditation Bench :)

A. Only in America do we have this very strange notion that we shouldn't need to support the Dharma. This doesn't exist in traditional Buddhist countries, where the standard "religious tithe" in America of 10% of your income is seen as insultingly little. Why do you think it's fair that other people should pay to support your access to the dharma, a teacher, teachings, and a reliable place to practice? When we are children, our parents see to our needs, but part of growing up is learning to be responsible on our own. If you honestly cannot afford $20 a month to support the availability of the dharma and a place to practice it (and this takes a lot of serious introspection - it's hard to imagine an adult who does not have less than a dollar… [cont.]

A. You don't need to loose weight - you just need to tone up and build up some muscle on the upper half of your body. Speak to a member of staff at your gym and find out what exercises you need to do to tone up your torso. A healthy male needs 2500 calaries a day. You don't have a weight problem just try and build up some muscle. All the best :)
