How important is it for members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. to know a prospective member?
Q. I am extremely interested in becoming a part Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. however I am extremely shy when it comes to meeting new people. I attend the majority of the chapter's events but I am too scared to talk to current members. Could this effect my chances of becoming a member?
Asked by Miss Indepenent - Mon Oct 26 23:11:49 2009 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. I am a member that doesn't talk a lot either, and I became a member, and not every member of Alpha Kappa Alpha is a social butterfly. Some people are more reserved and tend to keep to themselves and there is nothing wrong with that. Do your best in becoming acquainted with members, and stayed involved in your community. If its meant to be then it will be. Good luck.

How can I become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha in the military?
Q. I really want to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. Ive been wanting to do it for the longest. Problem is that I am in the military and go to college online. What can i do to become a member.
Asked by Sherry C - Sat Dec 26 18:39:07 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well usually if you're in the military it's easier to try to become a member after you've received your BS/BA degree since there the undergraduate chapters are generally tied to universities or a group of universities in an area (i.e. Chicago). So hang in there & finish your degree, then try to talk to graduate members that are in your area & attend events that the ladies invite you to so that you can show your interest in becoming a member. Hope this helps.

Is It ok to write a letter of interest to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority prior to an interest meeting or rush?
Q. To any member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, i just needed a few sound suggestions in regards to the appropriateness of writing a letter before an interest meeting or rush even take place. I go to school where there is not a chapter on the campus, but there is a city wide chapter. Also, most of the members attend another school that is apart of the city chapter.
Asked by Angelchic11 - Sat Feb 14 16:49:05 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There's nothing wrong with getting a head start on a letter. Appropriateness comes into question depending on what you plan to do with the letter once it's complete. If you plan to send it to the president of the city-wide chapter, that should be fine. However, understand that you may or may not receive a response. If you do not receive a response, I would find it inappropriate to continue to attempt to contact the chapter. Once you have made contact, they have your information and will contact you if they are able to assist you.

What are the requirements for a student joining a sorority(Alpha Kappa Alpha) if you are a transfer student?
Q. Im a young lady intrested in becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha and was wondering on what requirements I would need to have if I'm going to be transfering to another school for the spring semester. Can someone please help me and maybe give me a better insite on what I need to do to become a member of this sorority?
Asked by cocodivine04 - Fri Aug 17 20:06:36 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As a transfer student you must have at least one semester in which you were enrolled "full time" (at my school it's 12 + hours) as well as at the very least a "C+" GPA, although your College/University might require a higher GPA. So pretty much you would be allowed to attend Rush when you are in your second semester at your school.

Is there a graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha affiliated with the University of Phoenix?
Q. I have currently enrolled in a masters program at the University of Phoenix, I have been interested in learning more about Alpha Kappa Alpha and would just like to know if there is any chapter at this particular university. Thanks in advance
Asked by shay shay - Wed Jan 21 17:41:12 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You do not need to be in Graduate school in order to obtain membership into the sorority. You need to have completed your bachelors degree from an accredited university with a C+ average. If you did not finish your bachelors with a C+ average, then you will need to have completed your masters from and accredited university in order to obtain membership. I am not sure if the University of Phoenix applies you would need to find out this information on your own. Graduate membership is by invitation only, so you will need to find what chapters are located in your area. Try to attend as many events as possible to get to know the Sorors in your area. Also, it is important to be active in the community, you never know when you might run… [cont.]

How do you become an AKA (Alpha Kappa Alpha) during my undergraduate college years?
Q. I wish to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. during my pursuit of an undergraduate degree. Is that possible? And if so how how do I go about starting this process?
Asked by adrianne_diva - Sat Aug 30 22:27:47 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Start off by visiting the national website at Learn the history, founders, incorporators, national platforms, national presidents (past a present) and all other info on the site. If the chapter at your school has a website, become familiar with their history and charter members. If you haven't started on your community service, start now. Although we only take the community service you've done 2 years prior to the formal rush, we look at what you're doing in community. You never know whom you're helping or working with. Attend the functions the chapter holds on campus. Also, make sure your grades are above a 2.5. Alot of chapters require a gpa higher than what the national office requires. Don't wait until the last minute to try and get… [cont.]

Why does Alpha Kappa Alpha have three graduate chapters in Washington DC?
Q. I was wondering if anyone could explain the differences between Alpha Kappa Alphas three graduate chapters in DC. I was interested in finding out more about DC's graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha and supporting some of their programs and events but then I found out that they actually have three of them and I didn't understand why or how they differed, so I wasn't sure which one I should look into.

A. Initially Xi Omega was the first chapter in D.C and the area just expanded to three chapters. Rho Mu Omega being the last one in 1988, which is my chapter. Xi Zeta Omega is the other chapter. We work together on many projects and are not as separate as it seems. You can check out the websites and/or attend functions just to see which chapter fits you best. Each chapter all over the world is different, but we don't profess that one is better than the other. The D.C. area is a very big area and Sorors join the chapter that they are most comfortable with. Feel free to visit www.rhomuomega.org to check out my chapter in particular.

How to properly contact graduate chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated?
Q. I recently tried contacting a graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated for dates on sponsored community service events? I hoping to meet members and get involved( where applicable) and support the organization. Unfortunately, no one contacted me back. Did I do something wrong or ? I wanted to join during undergrad but graduated before another line was formed.
Asked by Inquisitive - Thu Mar 26 19:44:28 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Graduate membership is by invitation only, and many chapters do not respond to solicitations. I would not recommend attempting to contact them again since you did not receive a response the first time. If the chapter has a website, visit it for a list of upcoming events that are open to the public. Members are everywhere. You may know one at work, at school, or in other social settings that you frequent. The best you can do is to continue to check for events, and be yourself. If you have any friends from undergrad who are members, they may also be able to give you information about programs.

What should a letter of interest to a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc entail?
Q. How should I format the letter so that I can make it straight-forward yet detailed? What details about myself or the sorority do I have to include? Is it ok if I write them a letter of interest via facebook? If any members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. help me with this I would be greatly appreciated. Respectfully, RegalVirtuous
Asked by regalvirtuous09 - Sat Apr 19 13:50:22 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 1. The letter should be one page in length. 2. It should tell us why, specifically, you believe that you should be offered membership. 3. It should tell us what you have to offer the sorority. 4. It should give us an explanation as to why you want to be a member of our sorority. 5. You can leave out some of the more obvious things, like what school u attend. 6. You should approach writing it like you are in an interview; think of some of the questions that would matter to the the interviewer (above mentioned points) and answer them in the letter. 7. The letter should open you up to the chapter members. I wouldn't suggest sending an interest letter over the internet. You include it your application.

How do I join the Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority in Norfolk, Virginia?

A. Hello I am not a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha but if you intend to pursue grad membership check the local chapter website to find out about events. If they do not have a website then check local newspapers and become acquainted with some of the chapter members to find out about events. Graduate chapters do not have a rush and is by invitation only. Good luck with your pursuits.

A. You have to be in school fulltime and have a qualifying GPA. You should contact the chapter at your school and request information. If you do not have a chapter at your school then you're out of luck. You will have to wait until graduation and join an AKA grad chapter.

A. I'm not a member of that chapter. But read as much available info about the sorority and try to find the chapter's website. Most chapters put up flyers of their events on campus message boards, etc. Also, make sure you get involved in other organizations or clubs. This would be a great chance for you to meet some chapter members as well, because a lot of sorority women are already involved in other organizations before they cross and continue to be active afterwards. Goodluck!

When Potential Alpha Kappa Alpha are online, Does everyone cross over?
Q. I've notice when looking at my school Alpha Kappa Alpha,INC Chapter there are usually a large amount of girls online and at probate shows, but when you review the members info for that line there are about half of the ladies names listed. My question is, During the "come out" shows are all of the ladies new memebrs? Or is there a mixture of new and old members to disguise the new members until reveiling time. How does that process of being "online" and the probate show work?
Asked by Failure is not an option - Mon Aug 20 01:23:40 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is no 'on-line' that term is associated with pledging which was banned by the NPHC in 1990. There is an official Membership Intake Process (MIP) that candidates participate in after official notification from The Sorority. The presentations that you speak of are coordinated by the chapter at that particular campus therefore they organize how that show is done. There may be a nixture of new Sorors and old Sorors, it is at that chapter discretion.

I have a question for Alpha Kappa Alpha members?
Q. Could a non active member of alpha kappa alpha write a letter of reference for an undergard? Because I know two ladies that are apart of the sorority but their just not active members. & if both letters of references are written by people that aren't apart of the sorority would that be looked down upon?
Asked by Mrs Saddity - Wed Jun 4 18:58:45 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hello! It is acceptable for a non active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha to write a letter of reference; however, I do not think that they should mention that they are a member (since they are inactive). I know of a young lady whose reference letter was from a non active member who didn't mention that she was an AKA. She is now my Soror (has been for 3 years). Also, I just suggest that they do not mention that they are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha. That is just my opinion. Best regards in your quest to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated!

A. If the information has not changed on the national website, then you need to go with the information that is on the national website. Please do not rely on YouTube videos or hearsay. You may rate my answer low, but truth of the matter is that the information that was posted in the YouTube videos is not accurate and does not reflect what is on the national site for the sorority.
