How can I become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha in the military?
Q. I really want to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. Ive been wanting to do it for the longest. Problem is that I am in the military and go to college online. What can i do to become a member.
Asked by Sherry C - Sat Dec 26 18:39:07 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well usually if you're in the military it's easier to try to become a member after you've received your BS/BA degree since there the undergraduate chapters are generally tied to universities or a group of universities in an area (i.e. Chicago). So hang in there & finish your degree, then try to talk to graduate members that are in your area & attend events that the ladies invite you to so that you can show your interest in becoming a member. Hope this helps.

How important is it for members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. to know a prospective member?
Q. I am extremely interested in becoming a part Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. however I am extremely shy when it comes to meeting new people. I attend the majority of the chapter's events but I am too scared to talk to current members. Could this effect my chances of becoming a member?
Asked by Miss Indepenent - Mon Oct 26 23:11:49 2009 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. I am a member that doesn't talk a lot either, and I became a member, and not every member of Alpha Kappa Alpha is a social butterfly. Some people are more reserved and tend to keep to themselves and there is nothing wrong with that. Do your best in becoming acquainted with members, and stayed involved in your community. If its meant to be then it will be. Good luck.

A. You do not need to be in Graduate school in order to obtain membership into the sorority. You need to have completed your bachelors degree from an accredited university with a C+ average. If you did not finish your bachelors with a C+ average, then you will need to have completed your masters from and accredited university in order to obtain membership. I am not sure if the University of Phoenix applies you would need to find out this information on your own. Graduate membership is by invitation only, so you will need to find what chapters are located in your area. Try to attend as many events as possible to get to know the Sorors in your area. Also, it is important to be active in the community, you never know when you might run… [cont.]

A. It would be great if you attended some events that the chapters in your area were hosting. Since it is our Centennial Year, there should be plenty of things going on. You may also want to visit our website: aka1908.com. There is a lot of useful information there as well. Since Graduate Level Membership is invitation only as you have stated, you really have to keep your eyes open for those events. There is a chapter locator on our website that will help you find chapters in your area. A. Initially Xi Omega was the first chapter in D.C and the area just expanded to three chapters. Rho Mu Omega being the last one in 1988, which is my chapter. Xi Zeta Omega is the other chapter. We work together on many projects and are not as separate as it seems. You can check out the websites and/or attend functions just to see which chapter fits you best. Each chapter all over the world is different, but we don't profess that one is better than the other. The D.C. area is a very big area and Sorors join the chapter that they are most comfortable with. Feel free to visit www.rhomuomega.org to check out my chapter in particular.

Asked by Thoth - Thu Sep 11 08:13:00 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Please don't go out all willey nilley looking for a sponsor to pay your fees! I'm sure that you have heard the brothers use the phrase discretion is key! I'm assuming that you've been planning and have some portion of it, since you're considering an alumni chapter I don't know know how much parental support is still an option for you but of course it would be okay to ask them. But otherwise, you would want to have so private discussions with members of your family about borrowing it or if you have relationships with older Kappas then you may be able to approach them about sponsoring you, but otherwise do not go out in public looking for help. You will be harming your chances if it gets back to members of the organization. Best of luck… [cont.]

When Potential Alpha Kappa Alpha are online, Does everyone cross over?
Q. I've notice when looking at my school Alpha Kappa Alpha,INC Chapter there are usually a large amount of girls online and at probate shows, but when you review the members info for that line there are about half of the ladies names listed. My question is, During the "come out" shows are all of the ladies new memebrs? Or is there a mixture of new and old members to disguise the new members until reveiling time. How does that process of being "online" and the probate show work?
Asked by Failure is not an option - Mon Aug 20 01:23:40 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is no 'on-line' that term is associated with pledging which was banned by the NPHC in 1990. There is an official Membership Intake Process (MIP) that candidates participate in after official notification from The Sorority. The presentations that you speak of are coordinated by the chapter at that particular campus therefore they organize how that show is done. There may be a nixture of new Sorors and old Sorors, it is at that chapter discretion.

A. Depends on how much time your major takes up (ie: how rigorous is it? do you have to spend a lot of time on it?), what you're looking for in joining these organizations and how they will benefit you in the long run. Business fraternities are still very social, though they focus more on attaining business connections and it looks really good on your resume. Social fraternities focus more on the general aspect of college, such as social connections and alumni connections. They're more focused in being well-known and mixing with other social organizations. They also focus on "brotherhood"..though I must say, each organization varies on their importance on it. You can still get all of this with a business fraternity. White social… [cont.]

I am unsure how to approach them and express my sincere interest. There are also other girls that have expressed their interests to all of the girls. How do I stand out amongst several other young women all striving to be apart of this illustrious organization? A. The best way to stand out is to be active on your campus so my sorors can see you. Community service is key to becoming a member of AKA. Also, don't feel the need to tell every soror that you are interested. Pick one or two members. Don't worry. . .it will get around. Also, attend any open events that they have and ask to participate, if possible. Hope this helps.
